Make a Difference

Dear Friends, 2024 saw us expanding our restoration work in Black Mountain Open Space for Cactus Wren and Monarch Butterfly habitats.

Continuing the effort we first spearheaded in 2018, our trained volunteers are surveying the Penasquitos Canyon old-growth Oaks, and we continue financing their selective treatment against the devastating effects of GSOB.

Also proceeding at a very good pace is the Darkwood Canyon Trail restoration project: after tackling the massive amount of invasive species in 2023, our volunteers have been working on harder to reach spots. For next year, with approval from the City rangers, we are planning to create a pollinator garden at the trailhead, and would love to involve the local community in the project, please let us know if you want to participate actively as a volunteer or are interested in supporting the garden. A donation of $10 will buy 2 or 3 native plants.

We also led 30+ guided hikes.

Read here our Giving Tuesday fund appeal to learn more about the work carried out during this year and our new projects.
