The City of San Diego Parks & Recreation is organizing this hike with local bat expert Don Endicott. Endicott is a public educator for the San Diego Natural History Museum and a member of the San Diego Humane Society “Bat Team.” Sporting skills of flights and acoustic navigation, bats contribute to our environment in many ways —devouring insects, pollinating wild fruits, and helping reforest disturbed lands. Nearly half the 47 species in the U.S. are found in San Diego County. Endicott will give a short talk on bats and will have some bat specimens (not live ones!) with him. Meet at the Canyonside Park Trailhead at the west end of the ballfields. Canyonside Recreation Park is at 12020 Black Mtn. Rd., San Diego 92129.
